Welcome to Studio Soothe: Massage Therapy & Our Standards
Meet Studio Soothe, a local massage and bodywork studio. See what we treat, how we work, and the clinical standard we hold every session to.

Studio Soothe is an independent massage and bodywork studio founded in 2019, offering deep tissue, sports, prenatal, and relaxation massage from our treatment room on Willow Street. A standard 60-minute session is £65. We take one client at a time, keep detailed intake notes, and only recommend rebooking when there's a clinical reason to.
What kinds of massage do we actually offer?
We keep our menu narrow on purpose. Four core services: deep tissue, sports and remedial, prenatal (from the second trimester), and slow-pressure relaxation. That's it. We turned down adding hot stone and cupping in 2022 because neither of us had trained to a standard we'd stake our name on, and adding a service you're mediocre at is worse than not offering it.
Most people ask first about price. That's the wrong first question. Ask about the therapist's hours of hands-on training and whether they carry professional insurance, because the gap between a weekend-course practitioner and one with 500+ supervised hours is enormous. Massage therapy is one of the most-used complementary treatments in the UK and US, with roughly 21% of American adults reporting they'd received some form of massage in the past year [1]. That's a lot of hands on a lot of backs. Not all of those hands are trained the same.
If you're weighing options, our post on how to choose the right partner for the job walks through the specific questions to ask before you book anywhere.
What standard do we hold ourselves to at Studio Soothe?
Seven things, every session, no exceptions:
1. We start with a written intake form and a five-minute conversation, even for returning clients.
2. We check contraindications against current NHS guidance before any deep pressure work [2].
3. We never double-book a room or overlap appointments, so your session starts and ends on time.
4. We wash and change linens between every client, and sanitise the table with a hospital-grade solution.
5. We give you a written summary of what we worked on and what to do at home.
6. We refuse to treat anyone with an undiagnosed acute injury and refer them to a GP or physio instead.
7. We follow up by text 48 hours later to check how the body responded.
That last one matters more than it sounds. In February a 52-year-old cyclist named Marcus came in for what he called "just tight shoulders". His follow-up text three days later mentioned numbness down his left arm. We told him to see a doctor that day. It turned out to be a nerve impingement that needed imaging, not massage. Skipping that follow-up would've meant we never knew.
How do our sessions compare to a spa or a physio?
Different tools for different problems. Here's the honest breakdown:
| Setting | Typical cost (60 min) | Best for | When not to book |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spa massage | £70-110 | Relaxation, gift experience | Specific pain or injury |
| Studio Soothe | £65 | Chronic tension, sports recovery, prenatal | Acute undiagnosed injury |
| Physiotherapist | £55-90 | Diagnosed injury, rehab, movement dysfunction | General stress relief |
We're not trying to be a physio. We refer out constantly, and we'd rather send you to the right person than keep you on our table. If you want to see how that plays out day-to-day, read behind the work at Studio Soothe.
Should you book with us?
Probably yes, if you have persistent muscular tension, you're training for something, you're pregnant and cleared by your midwife, or you just need ninety minutes of nobody talking at you. Probably no, if you've had a recent injury nobody's looked at yet, or if you're expecting a spa atmosphere with candles and eucalyptus mist. Try this: book a 60-minute deep tissue first. If we're the right fit, you'll know inside twenty minutes.

FAQ
Do I need a doctor's referral to book?
No. Massage therapy is a self-referral service in the UK. That said, if you've had surgery in the last twelve weeks, are managing a cardiovascular condition, or are in the first trimester of pregnancy, we'll ask you to get sign-off from your GP or midwife before your first session.
How often should I come in?
Depends entirely on why you're here. For chronic tension, most clients settle into a rhythm of every three to four weeks. Athletes in-season sometimes come weekly. If you came in for a specific issue and it's resolved, don't rebook out of habit. Come back when your body asks.
What should I wear?
Whatever you're comfortable in for the intake chat. During the session you undress to your comfort level and we drape properly with towels and a top sheet at all times. Only the area being worked on is uncovered. Underwear stays on unless you'd rather it didn't.
Do you take walk-ins?
Rarely, because we only run one room. Same-day appointments do open up when clients cancel, so it's worth texting us if you're hoping for something last-minute. Otherwise we book two to three weeks out on average.
